GT (3) with blackbird ('George') on ground under or by burdock patch. Great tits now more often forage on the ground than previously, probably because much of the burdock seed has been removed from the top of the (dead) plants, some of it falling below.

Barn owl showing well over field immediately north of Carr Stream, perching on posts, apparently taking prey to ivy-covered tree near SHO, 1740 BST. Little owl call near SHO or scratty hedge. Tawny owl (2+) calling from H.P.

Greylag goose (6) past meadow to join others on fields north of Church Lane. Blackbird (2+), robin, wren (2+), song thrush alaram top blackthorn. Sparrowhawk (male) heading towards H.P. from Church Lane. No woodc**k.

Gulls (25+, 25+, 15+, mainly BHG, some CG and herring gull) drifting SE over plot. Carrion crow (5+) near SHO. Magpie west of WRR. Jay across into H.P. Little owl calls (2+ individuals) by S. Raynham church, in daylight. Buzzard calling near SHO.

A new invert for the plot -- Leptura quadrifasciata, a striking longhorn beetle, on the crown-lowered weeping willow by main pond. Length 20mm approx, mainly black, long, non-clubbed antennae with brownish ends, elytra with 4 almost equispaced ochre bands (pattern recalling sexton beetles but more bands).

Gulls (360+, mainly BHG, CG, a few herring gull, LBBG, 1 GBBG) heading SW across plot in 20 minutes 0800 BST. Later returning NE, erratically, some feeding high on flying insects.

At dusk -- little owl calling repeatedly close to plot.

Still being fed by 2 adults. All 4 juvs mostly huddled together. Pale edges to gapes still visible, tails short, almost squared off. Adults follow routes round the shed over the burdock patches. Later (0855) the whole family moved to sit on a strut in the sun on the eastern side of the shed.

Later, in the afternoon, all swallows had disappeared, though adults and at least 1 juv returned in the evening.

Now clear evidence of a second swallow nesting attempt in the N end of the shed (note that this part of the shed is purposely mostly left undisturbed).
