Goshawk (imm male) 1400 BST, appearing from east over Wensum, went west just north of Church Lane; looking brownish and therefore prob imm, projecting head; mobbed repeatedly by several carrion crows (visibly shorter than, or very similar length to, the raptor), flipping and showing talons to corvids. General commotion from woodpigeons, jackdaws etc, as with previous record (2025-03-12).

Sargus bipunctata on cuttings tip by main pond, as on 2025-10-05. Thanks to Andrew Culshaw for identifying this fly. This is a soldier fly (Stratiomyidae), with bronzy thorax. Head, with large eyes, is quite similar to that of hoverflies and horseflies.
